How My Diet Almost Destroyed My Hormones (And What Finally Saved Me)

I thought I was doing everything right. I cut carbs. I ate “clean.” I followed every trendy diet on how to lose weight, balance hormones, and feel energized. But instead of getting lean and thriving, I found myself bloated, exhausted, gaining weight, and stuck in a body that no longer felt like mine.

Sound familiar?

For years, I struggled with yo-yo dieting, digestive issues, and unexplained fatigue.

I became a mom at 23, and after my first pregnancy, my body started changing in ways I couldn't explain. No doctor could give me answers—just the usual “eat less” or “exercise more” BS.

So, I did what any determined woman would do: I took matters into my own hands.

I tried everything.

Vegan. Raw. Detoxes. Fat-free. Low-carb. Weight Watchers. Carniovre. Fasting. You name it. Every time I lost weight, it came back with a vengeance. My gut got so bad that I planned my life around bathrooms.

Then I found keto—and thought I had cracked the code.

For a while, keto felt like magic. My bloating decreased, my energy came back, and I lost weight effortlessly.

Until I didn’t.

After years of tightening the rules, cutting more carbs, fasting longer, training harder, my body started pushing back—hard.

  • The weight crept back on, even though I was eating “perfectly.”

  • My belly was constantly bloated, no matter what I ate.

  • I was either constipated or running to the bathroom.

  • My energy tanked, my sleep was a disaster, and I felt anxious all the time.

I had done everything “right.” So why was my body betraying me?

Because I was ignoring the most important piece of the puzzle: my environment.

Keto or carbs wasn't the problem.

The mismatch between my diet and my body's natural rhythms was.

See, your body isn’t just reacting to food—it’s responding to LIGHT, SEASONS, and TIME.

  • Carbs grow in summer → Your body expects carbs when the sun is high.

  • Fats dominate in winter → Your body burns fat when days are short and cold.

  • When you eat the wrong foods for the season, your metabolism gets confused.

I was living in a high-light, high-stress, modern environment but eating like I was in an eternal winter.

🚨 My body thought I was starving → It slowed my metabolism to survive.
🚨 I became leptin resistant → My hunger and fat-burning signals stopped working.
🚨 My hormones went haywire → Anxiety, sleep issues, weight gain, and gut problems.

And here’s the kicker: I wasn’t alone.

Women all over the keto community were experiencing the same thing—years of keto working, then suddenly, it didn’t.

I decided to try something different.

The first thing I did? I started eating more.

Yep. After years of starving myself, I realized: a grown woman cannot thrive on toddler-sized meals.

Then, I looked at the bigger picture:

☀️ In summer, I let myself eat carbs—seasonal, natural, and in sync with my body’s needs.
❄️ In winter, I shifted back to more fats and proteins.
I stopped extreme fasting and instead focused on circadian-aligned meal timing (eating when my body expected food).
🌅 I fixed my light exposure—morning sun, less blue light at night, and syncing my body to the natural day/night cycle.

And guess what?

👉 The bloat disappeared.
👉 My energy came back.
👉 My body finally let go of excess fat—without extreme dieting.
👉 My sleep improved.
👉 I felt like myself again.
